Prints as Adornments: Challenging the Frame
|
Turning 2D into 3DIn my current texture series I want to challenge the idea of artwork only being allowed to be viewed in a frame or on the wall. Asking the viewer to change the perspective of how a typically two dimensional material should be presented, and interact with it in a more personal space as a wearable.
Prints as adornments, starts with works created with paper, 3D printed objects and other hand-printed materials that I've designed and cut with digital software. I then begin layering on the pieces onto the skin to create bigger and bigger works that start to disrupt the figure underneath. Aiming with each project to build upon itself and become even more fantastical and over the top. Creating second skins, and an air of fantasy. The first stages of this experiment start minimally with just a few pieces of paper. As the experiment continues the scale will grow larger and larger. |
